Dia de los Muertos~Day of the Dead (Halloween)

Hello friends! I'm so excited about this Halloween tutorial (last of 4 in this short series)....because it calls to my Mexican roots to celebrate and remember our loved ones that have passed by remembering their lives. Day of the Dead is celebrated on November 1st for children and November 2nd for adults. On this day either at home or at the cemetery offerings of bread, candy, fruit, alcohol, or anything that the deceased enjoyed in life are beautifully displayed next to their photographs along with fresh flowers and candles. It is believed that on this day they will come and enjoy what you leave out for them. Traditionally, this day offers a special day to remember those that have passed and view it like a celebration. La Catrina (skull figured elegant lady) has become part of this celebration, known to be beautifully dressed and ready to go to all the Day of the Dead celebrations. It differs from sugar skulls because they are candy skulls, that are presented on the altars. A similar concept,La Calaca (deathly skeleton) refers to a skeleton that is believed will come and take you away at the time of death; or referring to death itself. Usually said that," La Calaca will take rich and poor alike, and you will take nothing when you're gone"( since death respects no class types). All these ideas are very closely related and celebrated in a similar sense. It's a day to enjoy, to celebrate death in life!

I chose very bright colors to adorn my face;

I thought these colors would complement my attire and flower headband.

You can easily choose any colors of your choice, different design, swirls, flowers.

My design is not perfect, it's just what appealed to me.

I made my own flower headband-just bought a small bouquet,

clipped the flowers, and hot glued them to a headband I already own but didn't care much for.

To add to the whole look I wore a long dark wig (you don't have to, but if you already have long hair you could also wear milk-maid braids). My blouse is authentic from my hometown in Michoacan, Mexico (they do some beautiful stitching).

The details that I designed on my face are a rose (forehead-beauty) petals around the eyes (to resemble a flower) cross (over my lip to represent my religion/optional) darkened my nose (to give it a skull appearance) along the sides of my face hollowed teeth, and a spider web on my chin. These details work well to represent death depicted beautifully.

I hope you enjoyed this short Halloween series as much as I enjoyed making these videos. I put in a lot of work into each one and I hope they gave you some ideas for Halloween.

Vampy Halloween Makeup (Halloween)

Hi friends! No doubt I'm enjoying filming these Halloween tutorials. It's just interesting to see yourself in the mirror, then with the help of a little makeup (OK a lot of makeup who are we kidding!) transform into a completely different person/character. So, this look is very dark and vampy-bringing out a very, very dark side...still fun to create. I added a dark, brunette, wavy, long hair wig to bring a little sex-appeal to the look; and decided to pair it up with black clothes because that was an obvious choice. I paled my skin out a lighter foundation than my skin tone and added highlighter all over my face for that "Twilight" sun-kissed glow. I mainly used the eye shadows in the Balm Jovi Palette by theBalm. The colors I chose were black and burgundy and just a little silver as an eyebrow highlight. Then, taking a NYX black shadow contoured my face to give it that dark, sunken in face look. To complete the look I added eyelashes and a deep burgundy lip color (shows up almost black on video). I hope you enjoyed this one and here is the complete video if you want to see this dark creation!

Creepy-Sad Dolly Makeup/Halloween

Hello friends! Here's another Halloween makeup tutorial! For this one I went with the creepy doll theme...and added a twist after I had trouble adding my circle contact lenses. Everything was looking perfectly well but it turned into a happy surprise when I got completely teary-eyed! I had to go off camera to finally get the circle lenses on and I decided that it just completed the look a lot better and it gave it a more interesting look. At this point it wasn't just a perfect porcelain doll but rather an interesting take; it became a sad-eyed dolly and I do believe it looks a little creepy. This is definitely for those of you that don't like the "pretty" Halloween makeup. These tutorials are just so much fun because it's creating something that you'd never do and the only exception when makeup can do so much more than just make you look pretty. I added a long wig with bangs in the front (fringe) and a black bow on top. I also had to include my Hello Kitty because I happen to like Hello Kitty and it just authenticated the look a bit more ( for me at least). If you decide to go with the teary-eyed look just add eye drops and let them run down your face. But you can always just go with the dolly look if you follow the tutorial to the point before adding the contact lenses. Either way good luck recreating this look, have fun and have a safe Halloween!! 0.0 ........

Masquerade Makeup Tutorial (Halloween)

Hi Friends! I'm so happy to finally be able to put up the first video of this Halloween series that I have planned. I initially wanted this to have gone up last week, but catching a cold had not been scheduled! So, for the first  Halloween video I present to you a "Gold Masquerade Makeup Tutorial". This is the look you may want to create if you want to show that mystery behind the mask...I dare you!! In fact, it's quite simple and the thing that definitely will catch all eyes on you will be the gold glitter in all it's radiant beauty. Glitter is just fun!! You have to admit that if there will be a time to get away with all this glitter it's now-So,why not?Give it a try and send, tag me your pics. You can opt for less glitter or another color...ooh! I bet silver would be just as great because of all the reflects (and if you have a silver mask)!

Here are some pictures of how this turned out. If you're interested definitely go watch the full video. I hope you enjoy it just as much I enjoyed creating it. And, stay tuned for a couple other fun Halloween tutorials! Oh, if you haven't subscribed to my YouTube Channel B3beautybyblanca, go do it so you won't miss them

TJ Maxx Online

If you're like me and you love a good bargain you should be thrilled with the news that TJ Maxx is now selling discounted clothing online. If you have ever shopped a TJ Maxx or any similar store you know that the hunt is definitely worth your time because you can most definitely find some amazing pieces. The website seems to have been recently  launched and doesn't appear to have nearly as many items as you'd find in store. The items listed on the website are Womens, Shoes, handbags, and The Runway(recently others may have been added); the start price point is around $20 and above. I imagine that the clothing listed online will be some of the more pricier items that they have in large quantities. The first advantage of this that I can see is that you might be able to find pieces that are still in the best shape. If you have been at these stores you know that so many people handle and rummage through clothing that they may end up simply being destroyed. Occasionally you might run into an item you love but it has been "loved" far too much by other customers so it never makes it out of the store when it's already torn or snagged. So, really this in return  might  translate into less damaged products; for the customer this means more "buyable" items and for the stores it would mean less returns on damaged products since less people will be handling the items. Overall, I say that shopping must be done with true passion and not matter too much where you do it as long as it gets done!!

Oh! You say you want to get started? Well I'll be kind and leave you a link :)

Spiced-Caramel Apples Recipe

I came up with a little sweet recipe... Just what seemed would taste good together. I had

never had this before but it turned out pretty good!! So easy & delicious! I made it up as I

went along and reduced it a bit. It only seemed right to eat with vanilla ice cream!! Of course

it was the perfect topping!! If you are worried about the liquor, don't fret because alcohol

evaporates with the heat and leaves just a rich taste behind. Give it a try! Remember to

share your pictures!

"Spiced-Caramel Apples"

5-small apples peeled & sliced

5-tbs water
5-tbs cognac
4-tbs vanilla
2-cups sugar
2-tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp-salt
1/4-cinnamon stick
